Why Blog?!?

Some of you, students, parents, and visitors alike may be wondering why I have my classes do blogging. The video below has an extensive list of reasons why teachers all over the world are asking students to blog. Check it out.

BLOG IDEAS

So, you've been blogging for some time now and you may be thinking to yourself , "Wow, I love this blogging idea, I wish I had more time to blog about ALL the wonderful ideas I have." Or maybe you are the type of person who is enjoying this assignment but is wondering, "What am I going to blog about next?" If you are the first person, you can stop reading now; however, if the second person is you, then keep reading for some blogging ideas.

I have scoured the inner workings of my brain, and of course the internet--though the internet has been very unhelpful in this regard--for some ideas to help you out. Here are my top ten ideas. Okay you caught me, these are just the first ten ideas I thought up for things you can blog about.

1. Interview a friend and post his/her reply on your blog. But don't just come up with the common questions, this is a blog, think of some really interesting questions that your other readers may want to learn the answers to. (Be sure to return the favour for your friend's blog.)

2. Do a bit of research into a topic and supply the answer to your readers. Here are some ideas:
a) your ideal vacation
b) what you might want to do after high school
c) your favourite author or musician or film director
d) a question you have always wanted answered (Why do hot dogs come ten to the package and buns eight to the package?) Then ask your readers to come up with some questions that you can answer in future posts.

3. Post a poem or short story or other text that you have been working on.

4. Do a review of something that tells others if they should give it a chance or not.
a) Put up a video or song clip and do a review of it.
b) Read a book and do a review.
c) Watch a movie and do a review.
d) Play a video game and do a review.

5. Post your comments to one of the Quotes of the Day.

6. Pick an issue from local, national, or world news and share your opinions and ideas.

7. Tell us about your favorite school subject AND why. (Bonus marks for saying it's L.A.)

8. Write about something that really ticks you off. Then ask others to share about their pet peeves.

9. Write about something that is truly a great idea and give praise where praise is due. (Like this list of things to blog about by Mr. Groff)

10. Think about things that you think could be improved and blog about your ideas for improvement.

BONUS: Ask your readers what they might want you to blog about. At least some of your readers know who you are and may want to get to know you better; or maybe they just want to hear your opinion on a topic of interest to them. If you ask them, they may give you some good ideas for future posts (and asking them will be a post in itself).

It would be very nice of you to make a link on your post back to this page if you decide to use any of these ideas. You could say something like:

You want me to drink what?!?

The quote for today was from Calvin and Hobbes and went like this:

"Who was the first guy that took a look at a cow and said, 'I think I'll drink whatever comes out of these things when I squeeze them?'"

It was discussed that sometimes trying new things, even things that others might think are odd, can lead to something good. Without first trying milk we would not have things like yogurt, milk shakes, cheese, ice cream, and, well, milk.

Students have been asked to make a post using this quote and the researching and commenting on a weird but cool invention. So I thought I would post on the same subject.

The comment on this invention, by the author of the site, asked how you prevent having the cookies fall out when you drink. I think it is fairly obvious that you simply drink from the side where the cookies aren't. This way the cookies face up instead of down.

If you like cookies and coffee (which I personally really don't) then this is the coffee cup for you.
